Some of you may be familiar with the television show Family Matters,
which showcased a brainy young man by the name of Steve Urkle. Well this young
man had a catch phrase that he would say whenever he would destroy of disrupt
something. He would say, “did I do that?”
For I know my
transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against you, you only, have I
sinned and done what is evil in your sight; so you are right in your verdict
and justified when you judge. Psalm 51:3-4
Just as small children, we too know when we have erred or
sinned. We learn right from wrong at a very early age; actually it is almost
instinctive when you think about it. And it is even more so when we are born
again. Part of the Holy Spirit’s job is to warn us before we step outside of
God’s will and into sin. It is at that moment we have a choice to make: the
choice of good or evil; God or Satan. But we, who have been justified by faith,
have the redemptive blood of Christ to cover our sins if and when we repent of
them. But if we do not acknowledge our sin, just as David did here in Psalm 51,
we cannot be forgiven and placed back in right standings with God.
Let’s not get into a habit of not confessing some of our
faults when we know we should be confessing them all. But rather, let us get
into the habit of pleasing our heavenly Father and walk upright before Him that
His judging will be justified!
