Acknowledging God

In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:6 ESV

I have always been fond of this Scripture, but never appreciated the full truth embodied within it. The instructions inferred, give us hope that when we begin anything in life, it should be lead with the acknowledgement of God.

When I wake up in the morning, I acknowledge God. Before I lay down at night, I acknowledge God. If I am stuck between a rock and a hard place, I acknowledge God. When things are going well or take a turn for the worse, I acknowledge God. I have come to the realization when God is acknowledge, I am walking the path He has designed for me, and not the other way around,

God is in every situation that concerns me...because I acknowledge that He is I AM!

Are you acknowledging God in your every day life?

When The Good Thing Is A God Thing

For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly. Psalm 84:11

Have you ever heard the saying "everything good for you may not be right for you?" That's actually Scripture found in 1 Corinthians 10:23 which says "all things are lawful, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful, but not all things edify." We may have the right or the authority to do or have some things, but not "all things" add value to our lives.

In our text God says He will not withhold the good thing from us. Notice, this comes with a stipulation: we must walk upright before Him. We are to seek to be obedient to His ways. We are to acknowledge Him as a deity and once we are consistent with pleasing Him through obedience, He will release the good thing He promises not to withhold. Ever wonder what the good thing is? Grace and glory! With God's extension of grace and glory, there is nothing good that can be withhold. God's grace gives us the pardon to perform great exploits for His kingdom. And with His glory, nothing can be concealed that is meant to shine forth: you and I are meant to shine forth!

Are you waiting on the good thing from God? Are you prepared for the good thing?

Doing The Right Thing?

I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. Romans 7:21

In the popular movie "Do The Right Thing," director Spike Lee brings to the forefront an ongoing issue in our society: racism. In the movie, the owner of a pizzeria is encouraged to include black people on the wall of fame which currently only housed Italians; the ethnicity of the owner. Therefore, the premise is to get the owner to do the right thing.

In our text the Apostle Paul shares that at times when he has the opportunity to do that which is good, evil is still present with him. I believe some feel that because we are saved, the fight in our minds between good and evil dissolves. This is furthest from the truth. I'm here to tell you, it can be a hard thing to do the right thing at times even when we're saved, but it doesn't mean doing the right thing is not necessary.

I believe once we acknowledge, just as Paul did, that no matter where we may be in our Christian walk, evil will ALWAYS be present. The question remains will we continue to take the bait the enemy lays out for us? We must get to a point where we choose good more so than we choose evil. Some say knowing is half the battle. I believe knowing is all of the battle. When we know, we can make a conscious decision to do better. Let's purpose in our hearts to make a conscious effort to do the right thing!
