Giving: A Helping Hand

How many times have you been told, “man, I got you,” or “girl you know how we do, I’m here whenever you need me,” only later to find out when you’re really in need, they were no where to be found?”

17 But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth, I John 3:17-18.

In Christian maturity, this is a place where actions speak louder than words. This is also a place where the love of God is not merely spoken of, but manifested. Our text encourages us to not just say we’re going to help, but to follow through with what we say; and help.

This exchange of selfless consideration may not be an easy thing to do for some of us. Many of us have had very little and it hasn’t been in us to give of the little we have. For others it’s a struggle because we may not believe the one in need deserves it. When we consider the ultimate price God paid in allowing His only begotten Son to die for our sins and to show us exactly what unconditional love is, how can we not show love one to another, especially one in need?

If you want to reap a harvest that does not compare to what you’ve sown, I dare you to give (in love and not begrudgingly) of yourself and your resources, and watch God shower you with blessings you won’t have room to receive. You see God gives to the giver. Are you a giver?

It’s time we GIVE, a helping hand, leg, foot, our all!

Your thoughts?

  1. Amen. Amen. Give and it shall be given unto you.

  2. Absolutely! Actions do speak louder than words. You never know who you can be a blessing to and God blesses us so that we can be a blessing to others. What you may see as a small gift another will see as a boost, whether in spirit or monetarily.
